Training Camps at the FINA Development Centre

Training Camps at the FINA Development Centre
  • /
october
For the first time in the history of the centres, a temporary training camp was held that brought together talented young athletes from the Thai Thanyapura Training Centre and the Kazan FINA Development Centre. Swimmers from the Korean national team and the South African team joined the camp as well.
The training camp was dedicated to the preparation of scholarship holders from two development centres for the FINA Swimming World Cup event, which was held in Kazan on November 1-3, 2019. Together with the best swimmers from around the world, young athletes competed for the World Cup medals. FINA Training Camp gathered over 30 swimmers from 24 countries.
The trainings were held twice a day at the Aquatics Palace, under the guidance of world-famous coaches Miguel Lopez Alvarado (Spain) and Graham Hill (South Africa).

Head coach of FINA Development Centre in Thailand
There are not so many cities in the world that have the same infrastructure as Kazan. I think that Kazan is in the top 10 of the world. The facilities in Kazan are not only good but also very versatile; here you can have young kids training at the same time with adults. Whoever designed this has a long-term vision mind. I think that FINA Development Centres give us the opportunity to share our knowledge and to improve our skills. When I first came here, it really stood up in my mind that Russian coaches wanted to share so much. So I had instant chemistry with them.
Graham Hill
Сoach of the South African national team, Chairman of the FINA Coaches Committee
The training process is going well. We want to thank Kazan for inviting us to the FINA Development Centre for the training session in the lead-up to the World Cup. It is difficult to make predictions, to try to guess who will win. Most Russian swimmers are in good form, Vladimir Morozov for example. I have been here for several days and I was lucky to meet some of your local athletes. I think that you have some really strong swimmers who train at high level. I was here at the FINA World Championships in Kazan in 2015. You have awesome facilities for hosting both competitions and training sessions. I hope that we will be able to come here on a regular basis.
Erin Gallagher (South Africa)
The best athlete at the African Games 2019, according to ANOC
Kazan is amazing. I could train here all year round! I have been here for 4 days, and we are doing some serious training. Obviously, I hope to make it to the finals, and maybe even take a place at the pedestal. We will see. The competition is tough; there are a lot of strong athletes. I'm more used to training in smaller swimming pools, I am still getting adjusted to the 50-metre one they have here.
