The first competition day of the Russian diving cup in Penza ended up with a great success for our team.

Frandiel Gomez opened the competition in 3m springboard event , with other 38 athletes. He finalized his program with 286 points overall - that was enough for the 12th place and qualification for the final.

In the Finals he performed powerfully and with great confidence: during the final round he was always close to medal place , after 2 rounds was even second.

At the end of the competition day, Frandiel took 5th place with a score of 377.95! He performed his dives 405B, 107B, 307C, 407C, 205B, 5154B, gaining almost 100 overall points more than in the morning performance.

After the final, Frandiel said:" I'm so happy and thankful to Fina Development Centre for the opportunity to compete with such a great athletes.
I have managed to concentrate and perform best in the final when needed. We trained hard and I would like to thank my coaches for their efforts.
I believe this competition is a good chance to learn something new and prepare for the World Cup and Olympic trials."

Pavel Muiakin , head diving coach of the FINA Development Centre in Kazan said that he was satisfied with the Frandiel's result, he saw his progress. Also he noticed, that the idea of taking part in the competition, despite of that Irakli and Sebastian had just started training, turned to be very good. Everyone was able to understand on which level they were among the other divers.

Next competition day in which our athletes take part will be on Friday, January 12. Irakli Sakandrelidze (Georgia) and Sebastian Konecki (Lithuania) are going to perform this day.
